Quilt Camp

Last weekend I joined my mom, aunt and their friends at quilt camp. This group of fabulous and talented ladies get together a couple of time a year for inspiration and fellowship. I was so excited to be invited! I had a project in mind and started it a week before camp so I could finish it there and use my mom long arm machine to quilt it.

Here is all of us with our projects. Notice all the different styles, so inspiring!

Here is my bicycle quilt I made. See my silly bird in the corner? Gotta have a bird! I am hand sewing on the binding right now in bright orange.

Here is my aunt (and mom behind her) getting ready to quilt her wonky cross quilt on the long arm.

So, My super talented friend, Rachel, and her sister are trying out for The Voice. I think they are so amazing and I even like their versions of these songs better than the original. Check them out! The more views they get on You Tube, the better chances they have. So watch them everyday!

Going a little vintage...

A few weeks ago, my besties and I took a drive to Alameda to the Antique Flee Market to find some gems for our salon. With the inspiration of taking the salon to a more vintage feel, we set out to find antique brushes, blow dryers or anything that screamed "save me!" It was so much fun and I found it a bit overwhelming as I wanted to buy everything but my pocketbook wouldn't allow it. We did find some priceless items though and now have decorated our salon with them. We also found these really cool metal tiles that we are now displaying on the walls. Love them!
With spring approaching, I also decided to revamp my hair flowers that I sell in the salon. In winter, I made them out of felts and they sold great. Now I am making them out of fabrics which gives me a lot more artistic freedom since my options are so much more. I still put a vintage button in the center, of course! A wonderful client of mine told me to display the hair flowers on a clothesline. So smart and so adorable!

First Post... YIKES!

Welcome to Birdyful! First of all , I can't believe I am doing this because I am not at all a writer. So I am just gonna let it flow and hope you all aren't judging me on my poor writing skills. (...or lack of writing skills.) When I finally decided to take this to the next level, I needed a name for myself. My daughter and I brainstormed, focusing on the word "bird" because of my obsession for birds. A lot of my art is inspired by birds. Whether they are sitting peacefully on a branch or looking completely dorky. They all have a personality to me. Melissa, my daughter, came up with 'Birdyful' since my job is to make people feel and look beautiful.
This holiday season, I decided to participate in a Christmas Boutique. I was invited by one of my clients, who is always hearing about my latest creation. Suddenly I was in production of multiple items and my living room was feeling like my own little sweatshop. As much work as it was, I had a lot of fun doing it. The most rewarding part was seeing people excited to purchase and enjoy my creations. This is my daughter and I at the Christmas Boutique.
